Medicare
Unfortunately, there is currently no financial Medicare benefit for counselling services in Australia as it only covers some psychology services. The good news is that you do not need a GP referral to start making changes today.
There are benefits of bringing a referral or Mental Health Care Plan which encourages taking a more holistic approach offering a direct line of communication to your GP. This may be particularly beneficial for those with more complex medical issues, especially if you are currently on medication for your mental health.
Private Health
Some private health insurers cover the partial payment of counselling sessions up to a maximum amount per annum as part of their Extras cover. Currently, these are some of insurance providers will offer a rebate for counselling services:
NDIS
Strive welcomes referrals and clients registered under the NDIS. You can rest assured that your complex medical and/or psychiatric conditions, medications and impacts of your disability on your daily living will be met with understanding and empathy. Please note - a separate fee applies for NDIS patients.
